MacDonald-Bedford (M-B) provided support for construction projects integral to the new $40M Joint Forces Headquarters Readiness Center for the Alabama Army National Guard (AL ARNG). The projects provided more than 208,330 square feet of facilities, thus providing a new home for the Alabama National Guard Joint Force Headquarters; the Alabama Army National Guard's 131st Mobile Public Affairs Detachment, 151st Army Band; the United States Army Reserve's 358th Medical Detachment Veterinary Services, the 282nd Quartermaster Company, and the 206th Transportation Company. Among the replacement of seven older and geographically separate buildings, and the many cost savings and energy efficient features, this new facility is one of the largest solar projects in the State of Alabama. The building includes enough solar panels to provide more than 340 kilowatts of power. The project also incorporated other LEED criteria to obtain the Gold certification.
M-B’s, in support of the Alabama Guard’s Construction and Facilities Management Officer, provided quality assurance of drawings and blueprints to guarantee that they met military acceptance criteria; modified plans, specifications, and/or drawings when situations warranted. M-B provided construction management support, recommending changes and suggestions to contractor's plans and specifications; identified materials needed for construction projects to include building materials, tools, and equipment. In addition, M-B assisted with the preparation of plans, specifications, budget, and with evaluating cost proposals for all related projects. In addition, we wrote detailed scope of work documents, identified problems or issues in documents, and provided alternatives or solutions for the problems where feasible.
