MacDonald-Bedford (M-B), in support of AECOM, provided a comprehensive design review for the Moynihan Train Hall (MTH) Space Fit-out Design. Adjacent to Penn Station, the new Train Hall, named after the late Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan, serves as a new concourse for Amtrak and Long Island Railroad (LIRR) passengers, while additional space is dedicated to commercial, retail, and dining spaces. The Train Hall project was completed on-schedule and opened to the public on January 1, 2021. The historic Post Office Building’s redevelopment into the Moynihan Train Hall created a new 255,000-square-foot Train Hall providing full service and amenities to all passengers, increased total concourse floor space in the complex by more than 50 percent, and dramatically expanded circulation and accessibility to the existing train platforms running below it.
The AECOM team provided complete design and commissioning services, including scrutiny regarding the selection of materials, equipment, and systems that provided the best possible performance, maintenance, and replacement regimes, and life-cycle costs critical to the successful design, implementation, and operation of LIRR facilities within MTH.
M-B produced the Commissioning, Acceptance, and Maintenance Plan (CAMP), per LIRR standards, in association with the design process and documentation to address Standard Operating and Maintenance manuals, Training, Maintenance and Warranty Development, Service and Maintenance agreements for select systems, and final testing/acceptance criteria and documentation. The CAMP reflected the material, equipment, and system requirements in the design drawings and technical specifications to provide a cohesive package.
