The new state-of-the-art Regional Training Institute of 168 acres serves many functions including improving training efforts and increasing living space for the New Jersey Army National Guard (NJ-ARNG) and state law enforcement activities. It now is home to the New Jersey National Guard’s 254th Regional Training Institute, Medical Command, Recruiting and Retention Command, 154th Water Purification Company, 63rd Army Band, Youth Challenge Academy, and the National Guard Militia Museum of New Jersey. Utilizing RTI facilities, the New Jersey State Police, Department of Corrections, Division of Criminal Justice, and the Juvenile Justice Commission conduct their respective training academies, weapons qualifications, and continuing education courses on the post year round
The project included 10 state-of-the-art classrooms, a library/learning center, supply/storage areas, a weapons vault, an auditorium with seating for 225, a medical station, 26 offices, general administration areas, a conference room, 72 billeting rooms, and a men's & women's shower/locker room. The massive effort was planned and funded in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy when the structures almost 100 years old were damaged beyond repair with the goal of meeting LEED Silver requirements.
M-B placed a full time two-man engineering team on site to manage all project and construction management activities on behalf of the State's Construction and Facilities Management Office (CFMO) in Lawrenceville, New Jersey. This included considerable conceptual planning, extensive design review, and construction contractor surveillance. M-B was also responsible for obtaining approvals from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection for dewatering contaminated groundwater.
