Naval Support Facility (NSF) Diego Garcia is a British Ministry of Defense facility leased to the United States Navy, located on the atoll Diego Garcia in the British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT).  As a British territory, all military and civilian personnel residing on the island come under BIOT law and administration.  It plays a key role in providing logistic support to the U.S. Navy’s efforts in the Indian Ocean and Persian Gulf.  NSF Diego Garcia serves the Air Force and Navy’s aircraft facilities including aircraft refueling stations and bulk storage tanks.  Entry into Diego Garcia is restricted, requiring area clearance by the Commanding Officer of Navy Support Facility, Diego Garcia for all military and civilian personnel. There is a total of about 2,400 people on the island, 396 joint forces military and over 2,000 DoD civilians and contractors.

These fuel tanks and fuel systems require retro-commissioning and repair services to keep them functioning at high levels and to contend with the corrosive coastal environment in which they are located. MacDonald-Bedford provided Project Coordination services at NSF Diego Garcia for several Petroleum Oil and Lubricants (POL) projects requiring upgrade, preventative maintenance, and repair. 

The Project Coordinator planned, initiated, managed, executed, and closed out POL projects and services while coordinating with the Public Works Department, the Fleet Logistics Command Yokosuka, and the Defense Logistics Agency. The Project Coordinator, a mechanical engineer and fire protection subject matter expert, conducted design reviews, assisted with the development of contract documents, and conducted surveillance of all construction activities.
